The tour consists of an outstanding show of tango and folklore in a historic building. A century ago the inhabitants of Buenos Aires would visit a warehouse not only to buy food, but also textiles, food for chickens, firewood or kerosene for the stove, some rough clothes and seeds for vegetable gardens. But the fundamental difference was that the store was also a source of alcoholic beverages. By the late nineteenth century tango was born. To keep the values intact, in 1969 Edmundo Rivero founded “El Viejo Almacén” (the old warehouse), where you can find the soul of Buenos Aires. Its mud brick walls hide tales of betrayal and the furtive loves of singers and dancers, knifemakers and poets. The location still retains its original structure and setting, reasons why it has been recognised by the Honourable City Council of Buenos Aires. The notes of an accordion break the gloom. At times, the sound seems to summon the former parishioners of the Warehouse. The clinking of glasses in toast recalls the elusive clash of machetes on the corner of Balcarce and Independencia. The stage lights up, but the echoes of another century do not disappear. The chords of a tango orchestra reverberate around the tables. The dancers revolve in an embrace. In the “el Viejo Almacen” you can combine the artistic and the gastronomic ensuring the visitors enjoy a warm evening of tango. Dinner in the first floor “Buenos Aires Querido”: at 20.00pm. “El Viejo Almacen” is also an ideal place to enjoy tender and tasty Argentine steak together with a variety of first class culinary options accompanied by the country’s finest wines. Show in “el Viejo Almacen” tango hall: at 22.00pm. (365 days a year). Since 1969 the best interpreters of this genre have been performing on stage and without doubt, you will appreciate the show as the most faithful exponent of tango in Buenos Aires, protecting its classicism, in a cosy and typical cafe.

Duration: Half day (approximately 3 hours).
Availability: Everyday at 20.00 pm.
Includes: Transport. Dinner with drinks included, composed of different options for starters, main course and dessert. Right up to the show.

"Thanks to you (Pensaris) for working with me during the past 2 years while I have lived here in Argentina and came here knowing basically no Spanish at all except how to say “hello”, “goodbye”, “thank you” ! I am not fluent by any means but I can read, write, understand and speak Spanish better because of your classes." Erin S.
